Preparation against Tidal Waves
General
1. If you feel a strong earthquake (over 4 degrees on the seismic scale) or a small earthquake which sways slowly for a long time, leave the seashore immediately and take refuge in a safe place.
2. Even if you feel no earthquake, when you hear the Tidal Wave Warning, leave the seashore immediately and take refuge in a safe place.
3. Listen for information from radio, television, loudspeaker vans, etc.
4. Do not go sea bathing or fishing if a Tidal Wave Caution has been issued.
5. Stay on your guard until the Warning is cleared; often tidal waves can strike repeatedly.
Shipping
1. If you feel a strong earthquake (over 4 degrees on the seismic scale) or a small earthquake which sways slowly for a long time, leave the harbour immediately and take refuge. (NB 1,2)
2. Even if you feel no earthquake, when you receive a Tidal Wave Warning or Caution, go out of the harbour immediately and take refuge. (NB 1,2)
3. Listen for information on the radio, television, wireless, etc.
4. Small-sized boats should be pulled up and lashed down on high ground. (NB 2)
5. Stay on your guard until the Warning is cleared; often tidal waves can strike repeatedly.
NB 1: Out of the harbour Deep, open sea
NB 2: Small boats should be taken out of the harbour or beached only when there is time to spare.
